SIZE Installation Issues
I'm getting an error installing the TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software. What should I do?
Answer:
Check the
Troubleshooting
page for possible solutions. If you can't fix the problem with the troubleshooting guide, enable the installer logging and re-run the installation with logging to generate a log file.
Contact Us
and provide the log file for analysis. A ticket will be created so that we track the issue.
How do I enable the installer logging feature?
Answer:
Logging is not enabled by default. To turn on logging during installation, run setup.exe with the /L*V "filename" command line. To open a command line click on the Windows "Start" button, select "Run", type "cmd" and click "OK". You can also chose from the Start menu under "Start -- All Programs -- Accessories -- Command Prompt".
"C:\{Path to PRV2SIZE installation files}\Setup.exe" /L*V "install.log"
Example with default path provided:
"C:\Program Files\Tyco Flow Control\PRV2SIZE\Setup.exe" /L*V "install.log"
Or the MSI file by itself:
msiexec /i "C:\{Path to PRV2SIZE installation files}\PRV2SIZE.msi" /L*V "install.log"
Example with default path provided:
msiexec /i "C:\Program Files\Tyco Flow Control\PRV2SIZE\PRV2SIZE.msi" /L*V "install.log"
If you installed the program in the default director and used one of the above examples, the install log file will be located at:
C:\Program Files\Tyco Flow Control\PRV2SIZE\install.log
Then the install.log file would be created next to the installation files in the same directory as the path to the program. For more help enabling installation logging, contact your local IT department.
SafetySize Questions
What happened to SafetySize?
Answer:
SafetySize is no longer supported and has been retired. The TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software is not a direct update for SafetySize. It is a completely new program.
How do I import my old SafetySize Tags into the new TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software?
Answer:
Unfortunately we do not support importing data from SafetySize into the new TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software. In order to get your old information into the TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software you will need to manually enter those tags into the new program individually.
Why was support dropped for the SafetySize program?
Answer:
The software was developed on obsolete technology. The technology would not support Windows Vista, patches to Operating Systems would create problems, and the installation was not very simple. In order to update the software to newer technology that can be supported it required a complete re-write of the solution. We set out to improve the user experience and capability of the application which required some significant changes to how SafetySize was originally structured. This created some complexity around support for importing from SafetySize.
I have a problem sizing something in SafetySize, what can I do now?
Answer:
Since SafetySize is no longer supported we recommend that you download the TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software and install it on your machine. If you continue to have trouble you may contact the factory for support.
What is the difference between SafetySize and the new TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software program?
Answer:
In terms of the scope of products addressed, the capabilities of SafetySize were primarily limited to Anderson Greenwood and Crosby pressure relief valve products. TYCO PRV
2
SIZE has significantly expanded on the scope of products previously addressed in SafetySize and now includes Anderson Greenwood tank blanketing regulators as well as Varec low pressure tank protection products.
Tag Questions
Do I have to save and close a tag before starting to work on another tag?
Answer:
Multiple tags can be open at the same time and tags can be saved at any point in the workflow (calculation type, sizing & selection, configuration, reports). You can toggle between open tags by using the tabs on the left side of the program..
Where are my tags stored?
Answer:
Tags are stored on your computer’s local hard drive. The default filepath is C:\Program Files\Tyco Flow Control\PRV2SIZE\Data. You can see this filepath by selecting HELP > UTILITIES > Show Program Data Folders… from the header menu. Currently the TYCO PRV
2
SIZE program does not have networking capability. When this functionality is launched, it will be possible to save your tags on a shared SQL server site.
Why aren’t the default units in my tags changing when I change the global defaults or the project defaults?
Answer:
When you change the default unit settings in the global preferences, all new tags will use those default units. Any tags that were previously created will retain their old unit settings. When you change the default unit settings in the project preferences, all new tags in that project folder will use those default settings. Any tags that were previously created in that project folder will retain their old unit settings.
Configuration Questions
Why don’t I see any Spring Operated Valves on the Sizing screen?
Answer:
The pull down menu located above the list of available valves has been set to display “Pilot Operated Only.” You can use this dropdown menu to restrict the potential valve selection list to certain types of valves or you can choose to allow all valves in the list.
Why am I not able to select a valve from the list displayed in the Sizing screen?
Answer:
: Click on the “Select” button displayed in very faint grey color under the “Click to Select” column. Your mouse must be in this “Click to Select” column in order to select the valve on that particular line.
How do I decide about best valve selection?
Answer:
The program does not assist in selecting the model that is best for an application. It will simply display the valves that meet the requirements of user data. For assistance in selecting the best valve for an application, please contact the Tyco – Stafford facility.
Why do I get an error message after making a selection in Configuration?
Answer:
The configuration module of TYCO PRV
2
SIZE has been written so that standard constructions can be selected without errors being generated. If the desired configuration is special or not allowed, then you will see an error message on the Configuration page. If you need a special valve, then use the custom check boxes to enter that information.
Why am I getting errors after selecting the “Main Valve Body Type?
Answer:
Only certain configurations of valve size, Material, Inlet and Outlet flange and body type are available. All other combinations will result in an error message. Call the Tyco – Stafford facility if the Configuration you need is creating an error message.
I can not modify the model number
Answer:
The program has been purposely setup to not allow the user to modify the model number. A method has been established so that a ‘special’ place holder is placed in the model number if a custom configuration is setup. The model number also will place an indication in the model number that it is special.
What is the source for the determination of the flange rating limits?
Answer:
ASME B16.34-2004 Mandatory Appendix VII (Pressure-Temperature Ratings: U.S. Customary Units) are used for the determination of flange rating limits for both the English and Metric calculation methods.
Why does the program automatically select soft goods to be Buna-N for Explosive Decompression Resistant Service for the 200 Series POPRV in Gas/Vapor service?
Answer:
The program is unable to determine if EDR soft goods are required, and it is defaulting to this service. If standard gas/vapor service is required, please follow these steps in order to step out of the EDR soft goods mode.
Unselect the Buna (EDR) for "Main Valve Soft Goods". {This means on that on the drop down menu, you will select it again. You should see ‘Not Set’ in the field, and the title of the option should turn blue.]
Unselect the Buna (EDR) for "Pilot Soft Goods".
Select the Gas (Except Air and EDR) for "Service" {4th option from the top.}
Now go back to Main Valve Soft Goods and Pilot Soft Goods to make the selections you want.
Questions about the Results
Why are my results different from those I received in the SafetySize program?
Answer:
The TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software uses an improved unit conversion module over that of SafetySize, and it handles the rounding of calculations in a different manner. For some models the TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software contains new sets of back pressure correction factors that are based on the latest flow tests performed by our Engineering Department.
Why can’t I get my reaction force calculations to show?
Answer:
A variable that is used in the calculation of reaction force is the valve outlet diameter. The valve outlet diameter of a valve is based on one or more configuration options. If the configuration options have not been completely selected, then the value of the outlet diameter will be unknown, and the reaction force cannot be calculated. .
The catalog capacity and program sizing capacity do not match. What should I do?
Answer:
There may be small differences in results due to rounding and conversion differences in the calculations. However, if there is a large difference, or more information is required about the differences, please contact the Tyco Stafford facility.
Report Generation & Report Printing Questions
Why am I unable to print a report?
Answer:
A valve must be selected. If a valve has been selected, you will not be able to print a report if the configuration is invalid.
Can I print the sizing calculations?
Answer:
Yes. While you are in the tag, you can select REPORTS > CALC SHEET from the header menu and the calculation summary report will generate.

Program and Website Questions
Why is there an expiration date on the program?
Answer:
The TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software will continue to undergo development and continual improvement, and it is the desire of Tyco that the user base run a current version of the program. Tyco will regularly release fixes and upgrades to the program based on user feedback. Any program update will also extend the expiration date for the program. When the program on your machine gets within 30 days of the expiration date, a popup window will remind you to update your program every time you launch the software.
How do I update the program?
Answer:
You can update the program by going to the website and downloading the updated version of the program. At this time, you must re-install the entire program (instead of just installing a patch) when we have updates. The installer file will uninstall the previous version of the program for you.
I see the program update notice, but I do not see an update “patch” file on the website. Why is this happening?

Answer:
Please see the system requirements section on the website.
What is contact information for technical support & turn around time for answer?
Answer:
There are multiple options depending on your type of question. Please see the About Us > Contact Us section on the website.
Why don’t I see any catalogs in the program?
Answer:
The catalog installation file is separate from the program installation file. We chose to keep the files separate in order to make download time as efficient as possible. The catalog feature for this program is optional and the program will work without catalogs installed. If you want to install the catalog files, merely download the CATALOG.MSI file from the website (or access it from the CD), double-click the CATALOG.MSI file and the installation will begin. Please note, at this time, the catalog file does not have an automatic reminder for catalog file revision and updated (the main program has this feature for updates to the program). You will be notified via user alerts if there is an update to the catalog files.
Why is part of my screen cut-off?
Answer:
The TYCO PRV
2
SIZE software may need to be maximized to fill your screen. The software has been optimized for specific screen setups. There are some screen configurations for which the software can not compensate.
