History
Since the Pressure Relief Valve was invented there has been a need for valve sizing and selection. Over the years there have been a wide variety of ways to size a valve. In the beginning engineers would use their abacus, pencil and paper to size a valve. Ok, maybe the abacus is a little far fetched. However it was a labor intensive process that individual engineers would manually perform. Over the years calculators improved how users would size a valve. Eventually catalogs were published with a calculator strip that could be fed into your HP calculator that would size your valve for you.

In today's world we have evolved so quickly with technology, there are lots of options for sizing and selection tools. It seems logical that custom developed applications have been one of the most popular methods for sizing a vendors product. Excel spreadsheets are also a very popular method. Over the years at Tyco there have been a series of different valve sizing programs. Below is a list of different sizing programs that have been developed and in some cases they are still in use today.
